Disclaimer: I've never actually listened to Mac like that (I'm more into Beck), so please forgive me if this review seems a bit uneducated.
Mac DeMarco's latest album "Here Comes the Cowboy" was okay. I enjoyed it a lot, but it was so boring that I almost fell asleep while listening. It felt like my mother was reading me a frickin' bedtime story. Lord. Now that that's out of the way, there were a lot of great things about it too. It has a soft, mellow tone to it that's great for chilling on a Sunday afternoon with nothing to do. Mac's voice was very soothing to the ears and the sound production was great. That's basically where all the praise ends. There's really not much to say about this album. It was very forgettable, practically none of the songs really stood out to me as a listener. Although his lyrics reminded me of Beck in a way, Mac's lyrics were a little too obscure. I couldn't make sense of literally anything he was saying. For God's sake, the first track consisted of Mac saying "Here comes the cowboy . . ." over and over again. A+ writing there, my boy. You may think I'm being a little too harsh with this review, but it's what I honestly felt about the record. It was too bland. Too boring. That doesn't mean it wasn't good, though. As I said before, it was still enjoyable and I found myself bobbing my head a little to "Finally Alone" and "Hey Cowgirl". This definitely wasn't his best album, but it wasn't the worst album in the world. That spot's reserved for Logic. Rating: 7/10
